Wilkes kick off great200leaders Growth Board Seminars

Wilkes have given the first in a series of seminars offering businesses practical tips on leadership issues as part of a twelve month ground breaking initiative aimed at 200 ambitious owners and directors in the region.

As part of the great200leaders programme, experts from the region’s professional firms will be providing businesses with a valuable insight into such areas as HR, finance, marketing, exporting and legal affairs.

At the seminar, Corporate Partner Rick Smyth and solicitor Kathryn Morgans explored some of the fundamentals of Company law, issues surrounding directors’ duties and provided some practical tips, hints and pointers for directors on good governance in difficult times.

Mr Smyth said “We are delighted to be supporters of this excellent programme. Given how crucial an understanding of these issues is, it is disappointing there is not more support for small and growing businesses. We hope that the Growth Board Seminars will go at least some way towards addressing that problem”.

Initial feedback on the seminars has been very positive. One delegate commented “I wish I had had this advice before I set up my first company!” The slides are now available for download from the Company’s website at: www.wilkes.co.uk/do-your-duty Mr Smyth added, “If any one who was unable to make the seminar itself would like to know more, we would be delighted to help.”

The next Growth Board Seminar is on Wednesday February 6th where Tim Clay, of Clay Rogers and Partners Ltd, will look at the requirements of the new auto-enrolment pensions legislation. Mr Clay said “This is a crucial area for every company to understand. There are complexities in the record keeping and The Pensions Regulator has been given teeth to enforce the rules. Making a start many months before the legislation applies to you is vital”. Details can be found at www.winningmoves.com

Richard Crooks, one of the coaches on the programme, said “these seminars offer something for every leader and they are a taster of what you can gain from joining the great200leaders”. The great200leader scheme is part of the business development programme funded through the European Regional Development Fund and will run until June 2015. For further details please click here.
