Notary Services

A Notary Public is a legally qualified professional who deals with the authentication of documents or attestation of signatures to documents which are usually to be used in overseas jurisdictions.

Ann-Marie Aston Notary Public is based at our Solihull Office but can take appointments outside the office or at our City Centre office, by prior arrangement.

Notary Services for companies may include (but not exclusively) dealing with the below documents for overseas jurisdictions.

We can help you:-

  • Powers of Attorney
  • Documents confirming existence of a UK or overseas company
  • Board minutes/resolutions
  • Official Certificates eg birth, death, marriage
  • Educational/Professional qualification certificates
  • Passports/other identification documents
  • Attesting a signature to a document
  • Acknowledgement of signatures for documents for the USA
  • Affidavits, Statutory Declarations, Oaths, Deeds
  • Taking a deposition for an overseas litigation matter
  • Arranging an apostille/legalisation

When appearing as a company representative before our Notary Public you will be required to bring at least two items of identification to prove your identity and your residential address. The particular document requiring authentication may also provide that further identification documents will need to be produced. If you are unsure what you need, please contact us for further advice.

Additionally, for a company the Notary may have to conduct searches of the
Company Register, in the UK or overseas, to satisfy the relevant requirements. The fees of the search are usually just a few pounds, depending on the number of searches required, but are an additional cost of the service.

As a notarial service is a bespoke one the cost for the service depends on the number and complexity of the document(s) requiring to be notarised. Prices generally begin at around £250 plus VAT. More complex matters will be quoted for on contacting us. Appointments outside the office will incur additional fees to cover travel time and costs.

Apostille & Legalisation You may have been advised that your document also needs to be “apostilled” or “legalised”. This means that the notarial act needs to be authenticated by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and depending on the country the document is for, legalised by that country’s embassy. The standard fee for the apostille is £30; the premium service is £75. These are payable to the FCO. Legalisation fees would be quoted for as required depending on the jurisdiction the document is for. Postage/courier/agency fees would be an additional cost. Again, if you are unsure, please contact us. Urgent documents can be dealt with by courier, also at an additional cost.
