Each year the firm is involved in a variety of different initiatives and activities as represented by our CSR Champions. Everyone is actively encouraged to propose ideas and to participate. We believe in supporting disadvantaged communities, who do not have the opportunities that we do, and to help them develop their life skills.
A few examples of our planned and recent CSR activities:
Guided Reading at Nelson Primary School, Ladywood – Nelson Primary School is based in Birmingham’s most deprived area. English is not spoken as a first language by most of the children. Listening to them read and praising their efforts will make a huge difference to their confidence and their ability to move forward, as well as improving their spoken English. Our ultimate goal is for the children to be able to read independently.
Gardening at Grey Gables Residential Care, Acocks Green – This is a charitable trust care home which cares for over 40 residents. We will work closely with the Committee at Grey Gables and provide financial and hands on support for maintenance of their gardens. The benefits of gardening for the residents include exercise, social contact and a sense of living at “home”.
Yarkhill Field to Fork Festival – The firm also supported the Yarkhill Field to Fork Festival which raised over £8,000 for Martha’s Trust which provides care and moral support to people with severe disabilities.
Mock Trials by Citizenship Foundation in conjunction with the Magistrates Court Association – The March heat took place at the Victoria Law Courts on 21 March 2015. Over 300 schools across the Country take part in this event. It aims to give young people an insight into the legal system. By competing against each other and and taking part they are able to develop their own skills and understand the roles of Magistrates, Advocates, Legal Advisors and others involved when a case is heard. Volunteers from the firm have attended and judged
