JULY 2010 - WILKES PARTNERSHIP COMPLETES DEAL FOR CALIBRATION SPECIALIST

Birmingham based solicitors, The Wilkes Partnership, has successfully overseen the management buyout of Universal Instrument Services Limited – one of the Midlands’ leading calibration specialists.

The MBO was conducted on behalf of Hazel Horn, now Managing Director of Universal Instrument Services Limited, who acquired the share capital of the business from the previous owners.

Kate Hackett, partner in the corporate team at The Wilkes Partnership, led the legal team on behalf of the Leicester-based business. Wilkes advised on the acquisition and funding documents for the deal.

Ms. Horn saw it as the ideal opportunity to take on the business having been with the company for 20 years, as she explains:

“Universal Instrument Services is an excellent business with an experienced and skilled workforce. The Midlands has a strong heritage in engineering expertise and I’m very excited to be leading the business to what I’m confident will be a bright future. As the UK continues to come out of recession, I believe there are real opportunities for us to build on our position in the market and target new business. I’d like to thank Kate and the team at the Wilkes Partnership for their guidance throughout the buyout.”

Universal Instrument Services was established in 1966 and now employs 26 people. The business provides technically proficient repair and calibration services to improve its clients’ product quality and efficiency.

Ms. Hackett added: “It’s exciting for the project to come to completion and see the business enter a new chapter. It shows that if the opportunity is right, there’s still huge potential in management buyouts while the economy is recovering. We wish Hazel and Universal Instrument Services Limited all success for the future.”
